Automobile Trendy Designs

Automobile design can be very personal for those who care about such things. I have opinions. That is what follows. What someone responds to as a stunning design barely registers with others.

I have chosen a small sampling of vehicles that use similar design cues. Not exactly clones, and enthusiasts will not be fooled, but have you even noticed these similarities? First up, the sculpted side swoosh.

Swoosh-ado About Nothing

This 2010 Cadillac SRX is a striking example of one of the most copied trends in automotive design since hood ornaments. The sculpted side swoosh. An aerodynamic magic trick. A trend picking up full steam, perhaps, in the mid 2000's. This SRX uses the crease effectively and slickly for door handle placement. The crease starts under the front headlights and finishes at the tail light crease. A complete follow through that is well thought out. Like it or not.

Several designer's have picked up on this trend but  the worst offender is typically the tacked on, non-functioning chrome plastic piece. Cadillac has pulled this off pretty well here, though. Tacking on chrome pieces is not new. Have you seen the cars from the 1950's?

Finally, notice the overall profile design. The roof line and side crease work together at the rear in an aerodynamic culmination.
