Creases Gone Wild
Somewhat typical of countries west of the International Date Line, Hyundai never seems to know when to stop fiddling with a design (above left). In the 1990's I referred to Hyundais as a "Toyohondaissan" because they took design cues from all three Asian competitors. And not with the best results. They turned out looking like a bad drawing of a competitor's car.
Could there be more happening on this front end? Yes, there are a few others out there. From a bulging, muscular front fender, which has little relation to the rear fender or the soft, swooshy front end elements; to the "transformer-like" bumper emerging from within; few angles aligning with any elements and creases coming and going. Back off there, crease man.
A better solution is Ford's Focus (above right) yet I would hate having to clean the insects off of that lower front in the summer. I hope you see the overall similarities of the front with the Hyundai. A more coordinated effort coming from Ford designers. Note a crease coming off the tail light going in the "opposite direction" above the Taurus style side crease.
Hood creases are also very trendy these days and Ford's work well here. Originating from the vertical shaft on the front facsia, they simply disappear with the wind.
